You can’t really have a discussion about why pedophilic remarks are being made about teenage actors/actresses without addressing that the hair and makeup departments are going out of their way to mold an icon of these children that portrays them indistinguishably from the way adults are portrayed. This of course has implications both in the way that a child’s image is projected on the screen as well as the reinforcement factor when children see themselves portrayed in such a way. There really isn’t a “teenager” look anymore, as the boundaries between teenager and adult are frequently disappearing, with the fashion and demeanor of the two being virtually identical. And yes, there are a lot of really fucked up implications behind that thought that nobody wants to touch with a 10 foot pole because it’s really depressing. You can use your imagination if you want to depress yourself.

I’m mostly referring to that 14 year old boy from that show everybody is talking about that’s going around Tumblr now. Don’t know who he is or what he’s from, but I’ve seen pictures from him, and seriously, he looks like the stereotype of a fucking early 2010s indie rocker, and there’s no way he doesn’t have an image manager (which is a necessity in our iconographic culture) molding that look. Similarly, just go walk around any crowded area where you can expect people of all ages to be and you’ll find girls as young as 12 dressing like they are straight out of instagram.

None of this is an excuse for pedos nor is it an indictment on kids involved, it’s just… A really sad commentary on society and media as a whole, really.

And then Millie Brown, they’re styling her like a grown adult too. Adult clothes, heavy eye makeup and contour, red lips. It’s another case of children being served up on a platter for consumption.

I don’t watch Stranger Things but I saw a pic of Millie Brown and thought she was an adult!
