it’s a canonical character trait of remus lupin that whenever he’s avoiding thinking about sirius and his relationship to him, and someone tries to bring it up, he immediately drops everything he’s holding and gets super defensive:
- ‘But Sirius Black escaped from them,’ said Harry slowly. ‘He got away…’
Lupin’s briefcase slipped from the desk; he had to stoop quickly to catch it.- ‘If you knew my dad, you must’ve known Sirius Black as well.’
Lupin turned very quickly.
‘What gives you that idea?’ he said sharply.- Harry […] took a detour behind a suit of armour and sank down on its plinth to finish his chocolate, wishing he hadn’t mentioned Black, as Lupin was obviously not keen on the subject.
and this is sad when it happens in poa, but it’s also an invaluable trope that i want to see used in happy contexts in any and all wolfstar content like
james, not entirely innocently: ‘padfoot’s looking good today, isn’t he!’
remus: knocks all his books onto the floor, dives underneath a desk, issues a muffled sharp reply of ‘i wouldn’t know, i haven’t seen him today’ despite the fact that sirius is in the same room as them
